The team of 6 competed in a multitude of events including the Shot, Standing Tripple Jump, Speed Bounce, Standing Long Jump, Vertical Jump, a 4x1 lap obstacle relay, 4x2 lap relay, 2 lap sprint, 4 lap, 6 lap, and an 8 lap paarlauf.
The competition began with the obstacle relay in which we came fourth. We then moved on to the field event in which the team excelled. Jordan Cooper took 2nd place in the indoor shot with a massive 8m 30 putt, Josh Baron came 3rd in the standing long jump with a distance of 2m and Team Captain, Will Burrow, won the vertical jump with a fantastic 58cm leap. In the field events we competed in a total of 10 events and we were in the top 5 in all 10 competitions. Back on the track we started a little slower but kept ourselves in the competition. Then Will Burrow pulled off a great 3rd place in the 6 lap race. This was quickly followed with a 1st position from Brendan Loughran and Josh Baron in the 8 lap paarlauf. We then finished with the 4x2 lap relay and our speed merchants were out in force. Jordan Cooper, Will Burrow, Josh Baron and Jake Whitlock all put in a tremendous shift against some very quick individuals but at the end of the race the team finished in 2nd place.
All we could do now was wait for the results. Team members sat in the stand nervously awaiting their fate, listening to the results being announced in reverse order. Before we knew it we realised we were in the top 4, and then the top 2. To our great delight our team finished with a staggering 365 points and were crowned the Lancashire Indoor Athletics Champions ahead of Baines School who were some 19 points behind us.
The team now go onto the North West Finals on the 28th March.
Congratulations and good luck.
