Zondle Workshop

Yesterday, we were lucky enough to receive a visit from two of the three brains behind Zondle. Throughout the day three groups of students learned how to design and input effective revision questions onto the site and appreciate the value of playing games to embed learning.   Staff developed their digital literacy skills, alongside their pupils, and are now looking forward to using the site to set fun homeworks.

 

# QUADBLOGGING 7: PEER ASSESSMENT, PLEASE

Whilst catching up with my marking, I was impressed with a homework completed by Lydia in my Year 9 class.  What do you think of this snippet of writing?  

As soon as the bell went for the end of the school term, I rushed home. The moment I got home I got changed into my pyjamas , I sat down on my brown leather sofa with fluffy cushions, turned on the telly and curled up. Waking up to the sound of the birds tweeting and the sunshine in my eyes, was the best feeling ever, knowing that I could enjoy the rest of the day in the sun with my friends and family. Saturday didn’t go how I planned, I spent the whole day doing all my homework! Saturday night was the best part of the day, snuggled up on the sofa with the fire burning eating sweets, as usual whilst watching X factor.

#QUADBLOGGING 6: HALF TERM FUN

We have recently had a week's half term holiday so Year 9 decided to share with you some of their exploits.

Charlotte G writes: When the bell went for the end of the day, all i was thinking about was what i was going to do first! On saturday i woke up around dinner time and felt great as the sun was shining, so i went out for the day with my family. We went to Brock Bottoms which is a wilderness of nature, near Inglewhite, which is a village not far from Goosnargh. On sunday I went out with my friends to the trafford centre in manchester. We were shopping there for 5 hours and i bought cloths and accessories ready for halloween. During the week i visited places such as; The town centre in Preston(shopping), the pleasure beach(theme park) and the cinema. At the cinema i went to see Mr Poppers Penguins which is a childrens comedy, i was quite enjoying the film until a fat, smelly couple came and sat right infront of me. I couldnt see all the way through the rest of the film. Also through my holidays i went out for tea to the Italion Orchard and i had a delicious meal of BBQ ribs for a starter and a mouth watering lamb shank for main. Coming up to the end of my holiday was halloween so i had to be ready for my friends party which took place on saturday. On monday i attended another party, we went out trick or treating to her neighbours and brought back millions of sweets. Overall, my holiday was great! 

APPLE BITES

BBEC's Media Team have been looking forward to participating in the Apple Field Trip Workshop, for weeks, so there was much anticipation when the school mini bus left Broughton at the start of school on Tuesday and battled through rush hour traffic to the Trafford Centre.



We arrived just as the store was opening and gathered outside waiting for the nod from staff.  In days gone by children gazed into sweet shop windows with longing in their eyes.  This longing was in evidence today as our students gazed in awe at  the pristine shop floor and gleaming array of products.  It would seem the modern day sweet is Apple flavoured!

We'd like to say a big THANK YOU to Apple's Gaz, Matt and Chloe, for their help and enthusiasm during the workshop.  Our productions made with i-movie or Garageband can be accessed below.

The wonder of smartphones

Smart phones are amazing they can text, email, phone & use the internet. Now I don't want to sound 40 years older than I am but seriously they are wonderful. I use mine mainly for texting and e-mailing but mainly texting. But they can bring bad habits like 'u' or 'y' instead of 'you' or 'why' which I can't help but using in English or Humanities sometimes. But otherwise smart phones are excellent for example amazing Android or IOS (iPhone/Pod/Pad) apps like 'Barcode Scanner' or 'Angry Birds' or even simply a news app. I think smart phones are amazingly wonderful and easy to use but What do you think, 'Are they a pest?' or 'Are they amazing?'.
